Panopto Zoom Recording and Sharing How-To (Canvas Integration)

How to Record a Zoom Session, Save Recording to Panopto, and Share Recording within Canvas or Share by Email

Please read this how-to carefully! Several changes have been made this Fall 2020 semester that affect how Zoom recordings are saved and shared.

Some changes that have recently been made:

  • Zoom hosts and participants cannot save recordings locally anymore. This means that students cannot save recordings and instructors are unable to override this setting.
  • Zoom recordings will automatically save to Panopto. When a meeting host records a meeting in Zoom, it will first save to “Zoom Cloud Recordings” but will then automatically be imported into Panopto and deleted from Zoom Cloud.
  • Do not share recordings from Zoom Cloud. The recording links will break after they are automatically imported into Panopto. Instead, share all recordings from within Panopto.
  • All users have an account in Panopto. Log in at https://rivier.hosted.panopto.com using your Rivier email address and password.

If you are not interested in sharing a recording in Canvas but just wish to share the video link with email recipients, please skip to the section titled “Share your recordings within Panopto email recipients.”

Share your recordings in Canvas

  1. On left-side navigation, click Panopto Video
    • …add this navigation if necessary
  2. From the drop-down with your course name, select “Meeting Recordings” in My Folderhttps://it.rivier.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/ZoomPanoptoSOP01.png
    • ALL your videos (using the Panopto Zoom option) will show up in the Meeting Recordings folder.
  3. Hover over a recording and select “Share”
  4. You can share the recording link with “Specific people” (enter your students) or “Anyone at your organization.”
    • It is likely easier to share the link with “Anyone at your organization” by adding the link to an Announcement, or Discussion, or as a link under Modules.

Notes:

  • After your Zoom recordings are automatically imported into Panopto, they will be automatically deleted from Zoom Cloud Recordings. Therefore, do not share links to Zoom Cloud Recordings. Instead, follow the instructions above to share videos within Panopto.
  • Panopto (https://rivier.hosted.panopto.com/) offers options to download or edit your recordings, if you so choose.
