Help! I Accidentally Deleted Data!

I Accidentally Deleted a File. What Should I Do?

Whether you’re an employee or a student, the IT Support team is here to help.

Step 1: Don’t Panic

Deleted files are often recoverable. In many cases, files can be restored from the recycle bin or recovered from backups, especially if the loss is reported quickly.

Step 2: Check the Appropriate Recycle Bin

OneDrive

If the file was stored in OneDrive:

  1. Navigate to https://rivieredu-my.sharepoint.com/
  2. Select Recycle Bin from the left navigation menu.
  3. Locate the deleted file or folder.
  4. Select the item and click Restore.

Teams and SharePoint

If the file was stored in a Teams channel or SharePoint site, check the site’s recycle bin. If you are unable to locate the file, contact IT Support for assistance.

Local Computer

If the file was stored on your computer, check the Windows Recycle Bin and restore the file if it is present.

Step 3: Contact IT Support

If you cannot locate the file, contact IT Support as soon as possible. The sooner a deletion is reported, the greater the likelihood of successful recovery.
