Why Must I Sign Into M365 Office? (Using M365 in Computer Labs and Classrooms)

When I use M365 (Office) on a classroom PC or computer lab VDI, I am asked to sign in.

Due to the way we license Microsoft Office 365, you may occasionally be prompted to “sign-in” before you can use M365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Simply sign in with your Rivier email address and password. If you are unable to sign-in or receive a licensing error, please contact itsupport@rivier.edu and let us know.

How often will I need to sign in?

Once you sign into M365 on any VDI or classroom PC, you will not need to do so again for another six months.

Will I need to authenticate myself (MFA)?

No, you will not need to re-authenticate through MFA.

What happens if I do not sign in?

The M365 product will open in unlicensed mode. You will be unable to print, save, or create new documents. M365 will warn you with a red banner indicating that you are using unlicensed mode.

I did not sign in–I closed the logon window. How do I sign in now?

The easiest way to resolve this issue is to close the Office product you opened and reopen it. The sign-in window will return.
