Summary:
This guide will show how to use instructional technology to teach to at-home students from the Sylvia
Trottier Hall Nursing Labs.

Terms:

Zoom – Web conferencing software. It allows users to hold live web conferencing meetings between one
or more parties. Every instructor at Rivier has access to use Zoom.

PTZ Camera – This is a camera that can be repositioned up, down, left, right, zoom-in or zoom out via
motorized inputs from users through classrooms control systems or hand-held remote controls.

Web Conferencing – The use of technology to connect live audio and video from two or more parties
separated by distance.

Synchronous Classroom – Two or more classrooms (or individuals) connected by technology to allow
one instructor to teach to one or more classrooms and/or individuals live. This includes (but not limited
to) live video, audio and content (information on a computer) sharing to all students at once.

A – Synchronous Classroom – Teaching to one or more classrooms (or individuals) in one direction
without feedback from students. An example would be a web cast or live streamed video. Many
students can watch but may not be able to give live feedback and/or ask questions during the
presentation.

PMI – Personal Meeting ID – A term Zoom uses to give you access to start or schedule meetings using a
personal 10-digit numerical ID number that is not shared with anyone else. Everyone using Zoom has
their own PMI.

Start-of-Class Procedure:

1. Log into the PC or laptop*

*If you are in room 105 or 104B, you must connect the USB cable on the      black rolling cart below
the monitor, to your laptop. Then, connect the Bluetooth dongle from the JABRA speakerphone to
your laptop. Make sure the power for the speakerphone is turned on. The USB cable for the JABRA
speakerphone is only for charging. It does not have to remain plugged in if you wish to move it
around the lab.

2. Log into Zoom (Windows icon> then type “Zoom”, select “SSO” when prompted | “rivier.zoom.us”
should show up automatically on the next screen | Click OK | You should be logged in after this step.

3. Before joining a meeting, click on the gray gear icon in the upper RH corner of the Zoom window.

4. Select “Video”. Then make sure you see the camera. You may use the tall black remote on the
cart/lectern to control the camera movement.

5. Select “Audio”.

• Make sure “Same as System” or “Speakers/Headphones” is selected for speakers
• Make sure “Jabra Link 370” is selected for the microphone

6. Join your meeting and make sure students on the Zoom call can see/hear you appropriately.

(Best practices hint: Keep the camera position in mind as you move around the lab. It must be manually
repositioned to the view you wish Zoom participants to see. It will not follow you automatically.)

End-of-Class Procedure:

1. Leave the Zoom Meeting and log off the PC/laptop.

2. If this is your personal laptop, return the Bluetooth dongle to the back of the JABRA speakerphone.

3. Make sure the JABRA speakerphone’s USB cable is plugged back in for charging.

Note: This web conferencing system is independent from the legacy observation system in many labs.
The two systems work independently, therefore, they do not share microphones or cameras.
