Overview of Teaching and Learning Technology Enhanced Classrooms

As of Fall 2023, all classrooms on campus have been upgraded to the latest A/V technology. With the exception of the Science and Innovation Center, all classrooms have similar equipment/capabilities and nearly-identical control interfaces.

Here are the features of our classrooms:

  • Windows 11 computers at all instructor podiums with M365 Office suite and access to our AVD VDI system
  • Control system operation via an Extron touch panel (the pile of remotes are gone)
  • Front & rear camera for web conferencing
  • Document cameras in almost all rooms (except Demoulas and MEM104)
  • Ceiling microphones for capturing audience participation in video meetings
  • Voice lift microphones in select large classrooms
  • 1080p video for all components (including personal laptops)
  • Wireless screen sharing from personal Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android, Chromebook devices
  • Screen sharing for up to four simultaneous users
  • Recording capabilities via Zoom and Panopto

The Science and Innovation Center classrooms also offer:

  • Small group collaboration at each table
  • Flipped classroom instruction where students at one table can share material with other tables or to the room projectors
  • Ability to combine rooms SIC110 & SIC120 for screen projection and voice lift

Training

We encourage faculty to familiarize themselves with the exact equipment in the rooms they will be using prior to the start of their first class. IT is also pleased to offer one-on-one consultations for those less comfortable around modern A/V technology. Please email us at itsupport@rivier.edu to schedule an appointment–note that we need at least two weeks’ advance notice.

  • Here is a training video showing you how to use the touch panel. Please view it before classes start next week. Also, it should be shared with all student workers so they can see it too.
  • For the classroom control systems in STH 211, 124 & 125, here is a quick overview video.
  • For classroom control systems (WolfVision Cynap) in Science and Innovation Center, here is a quick overview video.
