Printing at the Library

All student VDIs are now installed with a new printing application with a number of features that should help students see their printer allocation funds and reduce accidentally printing the wrong documents:

Print Funds

Student VDIs upon login now show your current print funds balance in a Papercut window, a low balance message is present if your print funds balance is below $3.00. Upon printing to any student printer on campus, the application will pop up asking you to confirm the print job, stating the document being printed, the printer it’s being sent to, and the cost you will be charged. Only confirmed jobs are sent to the printer and charged. If your balance is lower than what is needed to print, a new shortcut is now available on the desktop that will take you to Rivier’s OneCard system where you can add Raider Bucks to your balance.

Print Release

Several printers on campus are now enabled with a Print Release feature. This allows students to send jobs to these printers and then retrieve them up to hours later by swiping their Student ID card and releasing the document(s) from a held queue. This allows students to take their time at the computer and potentially print multiple documents without needing to rush to the printer to collect them each time. This serves to reduce printer crowding and accidentally taking another person’s documents while increasing an individual’s privacy on what is being printed.
