MFA When Traveling

MFA When Traveling

Microsoft will likely require you to authenticate more frequently when you are traveling. This is normal. Microsoft will see unfamiliar sign-in locations and add extra protection to your account.

Q: I will be traveling abroad and won’t have access to my phone number. How do I authenticate?

A: Any student or employee who travels abroad should plan to take their smartphone with them. Prior to leaving, make sure that you are using the Microsoft Authenticator to authenticate. If you are receiving a text message to authenticate, you will need to follow these instructions here to add Microsoft Authenticator as an authentication method. The Microsoft Authenticator app will continue to display a new code every few moments even without Internet access. You will use this code to log in instead of a text message code.

Q: I am already traveling abroad and did not set up Microsoft Authenticator. What do I do?

A: Contact itsupport@rivier.edu. We will follow up and verify your identity and find a solution that works for you.
